Members are expected to comply with the usual dress code, i.e. the
wearing of track suits, football shirts, shirts worn outside trousers
etc. is not permitted.
Golf shoes are required on the course.
Clubs must not be shared.
Tailored shorts may also be worn, but not football shorts or three-quarter
length shorts. Socks must also be worn.
Members are also expected to wear smart casual dress in the clubhouse.
During Competitions
When you meet your fellow competitors on the tee, introduce yourself
and exchange scorecards.
At major competitions you will given your scorecard by the starter,
and the order of play will be as per the draw sheet. During normal
competitions the general rule of thumb is that the lowest handicapper
tees off first.
The player who is furthest away from the hole usually plays first.
Before you start it is advisable to put identification marks on your
ball and/or declare what type of ball you are using.
Please be quiet when other players are playing a shot
Don’t shout after you have played a shot – it may disturb
your playing partners, and other players may also be within earshot.
Do not walk on the line of other players on the putting green (imaginary
line between their ball and the hole), since this may leave spike
marks or indentations that affect your colleague’s putt.
Beware of your shadow on the green – move your shadow out of
another player’s putting line if necessary.
Be courteous to other players – help them to find their ball
and they will help you!
However, please note that you are not allowed to give fellow competitors
advice in an individual competition (about distances, putts etc.).
You can, however, give advice to a partner in pairs/team competitions.
Keeping it Safe
Do not swing your club until others are at a safe distance. Also,
keep your distance when others are swinging.
Don’t swing in the direction of another player when making a
practivc swing. There may be pebbles or twigs in the grass that can
fly up and injure another player.
Do not hit the ball until the group in front of you is out of range.
If you ball appears to be heading towards another player or group,
warn then by shouting “Fore!” (don’t be shy –
make it loud). You can also be specific by shouting “Fore right”,
“Fore left”, “Fore on the tee”.
Never throw clubs in anger – someone might get hurt!
Be Kind To The Course
Please replace divots
Please repair pitchmarks on greens (even if they aren’t yours).
Pitchforks are available for this.
Please smooth the sand again after playing out of a bunker. There
is nothing worse than ending up in somebody else’s footprint.
Don’t take divots making practice swings.
Speed Of Play
One thing that particularly upsets golfers is slow play. There are
various ways of speeding play up and saving time during a round, such
as:
If you are taking your allotted time looking for a lost ball (maximum
of 5 minutes allowed), please wave the group behind you through. Do
not look for several minutes first – do it immediately! (Murphy’s
law says that you will find your ball as soon as you wave someone
through).
If you play a shot and it goes into trouble (thick rough, trees etc.)
play a provisional ball so that you don't have to return to the tee
if your ball is lost!
Please try to keep up with the group in front (slow play may be penalised!).
If you lose too much ground, let a faster group behind you through.
If you have put down your bag and are going to the ball and are unsure
which club you are going to play, take a couple of clubs with you.
Taking one club and having to go back for another one is a real time
waster.
Be aware where the next tee is when you walk up to the green and leave
your bag/trolley at the relevant side.
Always leave the putting green as soon as you have all finished putting
– mark your cards at the next tee
