05.11.2008 Hopefully all of our stalwarts have been watching Autumnwatch this time round! At this time of year, keep an eye our for migrating birds, particularly Redwings and Fieldfares (they look like thrushes from a distance, but take a closer look...).

03.10.2008 Another Kingfisher spotting! Seen flying over the 13th tee by Barry Briers.
28.09.2008 The swans seem to have settled in for the duration on the pond on the 5th. Kestrel spotted again over 3rd fairway. Two Buzzards seen circling over the 17th fairway.
21.09.2008 Two (mute) swans seen a-swimming on the pond on the 5th. The two other types of swan often seen in this country are the Bewick's Swan and the Whooper Swan.
Kestrel spotted hovering over 3rd fairway.
13.09.2008 Male and female Bullfinch seen in trees behind 17th tee.
12.09.2008 Kestrel spotted hovering in various locations around back 9.
Report of a fox seen on the 15th - is Basil back from the grave??? Evidence in the form of a half-eaten Wood Pigeon seen on 11th.

28.08.2008 Green woodpecker spotted in trees behind the 7th tee.
Nuthatches heard in woods on 13th.
16.08.2008 Do you know there is no such thing as a seagull? In this country we see the following gulls, and some of them are extremely difficult to distinguish:
Herring Gull
Black-headed Gull
Common Gull
Lesser Black-Backed Gull
Great Black-Backed Gull
Little Gull
Iceland Gull
Glaucous Gull
Kittiwake
15.08.2008 Flock of Partridges seen flying across 1st fairway (presumably grey partridges).
03.08.2008 Good sighting of Kestrel on 10th.
27.07.2008 Lots of gulls around the course (not surprisingly with the wet weather). Mainly black headed gulls.
20.07.2008 Great spotted woodpecker seen in big tree to left of 7th green.
13.07.2008 Lots of swallows flitting over the fairways at present
07.06.2008 Wren seen in bushes around pond on 17th, Kestrel seen hovering over 15th.
01.06.2008 Another Oystercatcher sighting!
Tree creeper also seen in the trees near the 150 marker on the 18th.
26.05.2008 Keep an eye on the brambles near the 16th tee - Whitethroats spotted by Fred Lomax!
24.05.2008 Chiff-chaff heard in trees adjacent to 7th tee (extremely difficult to spot/identify LBJ (Little Brown Jobbie)).
23.05.2008 Oystercatcher spotted flying over the 10th (distinctive call!), Kestrel also seen on 10th.
Pied Wagtail seen strutting aroung the 3rd green.
Sighting of a Grey Wagtail also reported!
14.05.2008 Small flock of long-tailed tits see flying across 9th tee, couple of great spotted woodpecker sightings on back 9. Buzzards seen hovering over far side of course towards Standish.
07.05.2008 Heron spotted several times on back 9.
02.05.2008 Great spotted woodpeckers on 11th and 15th holes, Mistle thrush, Song Thrush and Nuthatch on 12th.
26.04.2008 Canada Geese spotted enjoying a swim on the pond on the 5th hole
24.04.2008 Reed bunting seen on the pond next to the 4th green
19.04.2008 Basil R.I.P. ??
Dead fox seen on Rectory Lane this morning - suspicion that Basil may have suffered a premature demise! Funeral with full golf club honours and 21 gun salute to be arranged....

16.04.2008 Mistle thrushes seen feeding around the 17th green.
Wren seen in hedge on edge of 10th fairway.
Hare spotted running across the 11th fairway.
13.04.2008 Basil spotted wandering around the (flooded/closed) course on the first tee!
09.04.2008 Song Thrush singing its head off in the big tree next to the 7th green!
01.02.2008 What a way to start the 2008 wildlife sightings! Kingfisher seen perching and flying around pond on 15th! Spotted by Keith Ashcroft and Superjoe Gill.
17.03.2008 The birds are twittering, the wildlife is getting frisky - Spring is on the way! The wildlife will soon be coming out of winter hibernation (in the figurative sense unless you're a hedgehog) , so keep your eyes open!
